Granada Brings European Flavor to West lake

Several new developments are being planned in West lake. The largest, Granada, is coined as the “Texas European Village.”

The Granada development will be located on the northeast corner of Davis Rd and Dove Rd. The neighborhood will extend northward towards the southeast corner of Solana Blvd.

The Granada development will be comprised of 84 lots. Homes are expected to be 30,000 square feet per lot. The custom homes that will be built on these lots are estimated to be within the $1 to $1.2 million price range. The $500 million development will have its own town hall, assisted living center, and amphitheater. Talk of water taxies is also in progress. The convenient location along Hwy. 114 also means Granada is expected to be in high demand. Granada will be a gated community. Furthermore, West lake plans to provide its residents with a number of high-end amenities. This includes publicly accessible trails that will also connect with the existing trail system outside the development.

It is rumored that Granada, as well as a second planned development, Westlake Entrada, violate West lake’s Comprehensive Plan.

The Comprehensive Plan was established in order to help guide the physical developments. It includes its land use plan, utility plans, transportation, and open space. The land use plan also helps to guide zoning changes. The plan can be amended depending on the circumstance. It is important to understand that the plan is a guide and not an actual zoning ordinance. The developments will not violate the Comprehensive Plan of West lake. The land was zoned for office and retail use in the past. The Land Use Plan was amended in order to allow the land to be used for single-family residential use.

Some also worry that the vision of the town is changing. The vision has always been an “oasis of tranquility and natural beauty amidst an ever expanding urban landscape.” This will continue to be the town’s vision. However, this does not mean that change will not occur.
