Arlington residents will find plenty of shopping in the area. The Parks at Arlington offers more than 200 retailers. Lincoln Square, in the shadow of AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Ball Park, offers more than forty retailers and restaurants, and Arlington Highlands, the newest of the city’s shopping centers, combines dozens of shops with restaurants, offices, and apartments.
Arlington residents have a wide selection of restaurants from which to choose without venturing too far from home. Local favorites include Piccolo Mondo for Italian cuisine, Pappasito’s Cantina for Mexican, Prince Lebanese Grill (featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives!), and good home cookin’ at the famous Babe’s Chicken Dinner House.
Parks and Recreation
Arlington residents enjoy the perks that come with living in the “Entertainment Capital of Texas” as well as abundant parks and green spaces. The City of Arlington owns and manages more than 90 parks and 6 recreation centers, with facilities that include hiking and biking trails, golf courses, playgrounds, baseball diamonds and sports courts, and picnic grounds. Founders’ Plaza is 1.3 acres of land located directly across from city hall in downtown and is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day. It offers a Meditation Grove, a waterfall fountain donated by the Junior League of Arlington, and a History Garden full of historic markers and native plants. In the evenings, you can expect to hear wonderful live music from the Levitt Pavilion for Performing Arts, which sits as the centerpiece for Founders’ Plaza and hosts more than fifty concerts a year with a broad selection of featured musical artists.
Arlington is also home to a number of recreational and sports facilities, including Choctaw Stadium (formerly called “Globe Life Park”, which is the home of the Texas Rangers), AT&T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys), the International Bowling Hall of Fame and Museum, Dyno-Rock Indoor Climbing Center, as well as Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor amusement parks.
Downtown Arlington offers a lively arts and music scene with plenty of bars and restaurants such as J. Gilligan’s Bar and Grill. The Arlington Museum of Art and Theatre of Arlington, offer a wide range of fine arts to meet anyone’s taste.
Living
Arlington real estate runs the gamut from modest ranch-style homes to newly-constructed homes in planned developments to luxury estates. Children of Arlington residents attend the schools of one of four independent school districts–Arlington Independent School District, Grand Prairie Independent School District, Mansfield Independent School District, and Kennedale Independent School District. Arlington is also home to several private schools, such as Uplift Summit International Preparatory (a K-12 charter school) and Arlington Classics Academy (a K-7 charter school.) For higher education, Arlington residents can choose from The University of Texas at Arlington and Arlington Baptist University. Additional colleges are located in nearby Dallas and Fort Worth, including Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University.
Arlington real estate owners don’t have to worry about access to quality health care. The greater Dallas-Fort Worth area has no fewer than 134 hospitals, including some of the best-rated health care facilities in the United States. Among these are The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, the #2-ranked hospital in Texas and Baylor University Medical Center, the #5-ranked hospital in Texas.
It’s easy to get around Arlington. I-30 (also known as the Tom Landry Memorial Highway) connects the city with Fort Worth to the west and Dallas to the east. In addition, I-20 (also known as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway) connects to the outer belts around both cities.
Via RideShare connects Arlington with College Park, Texas and between Arlington and the Trinity Railway Express Depot near Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. For trips outside the region, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is located about ten miles north of town. From DFW, residents can take non-stop flights to more than 200 destinations throughout the United States, North America, and beyond.
