  • In 1889, settlers arrived in the area we now know as Irving, Texas. Initially the site of a couple of cotton gins and a general store, the community grew slowly until the 1930s. Manufacturing, retail businesses and financial concerns contributed to its growth until the University of Dallas came to Irving in 1856. Another milestone took place when the Dallas Cowboys made Irving their home in 1971, building the Texas Stadium. Today, the city is over 256,684 people strong and is home base for several major businesses including Exxon Mobil and Michael’s Craft Stores. People often call the area surrounding Irving the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Shopping and Dining

Its close proximity to Dallas gives Irving residents access to almost unlimited shopping and dining experiences. Several malls reside within Irving itself. Irving Mall, located at Airport Freeway and Belt Line Road is home to Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret, and most of your favorite shops. Nearby, you can find terrific bargains at Allen Premium Outlets and Grand Prairie Premium Outlets. Women who prefer boutique shopping will enjoy Asia Boutique & Saree Center and Inge’s Boutique for unique fashions.

Fine dining opportunities are plentiful near Irving real estate. La Cima Club serves traditional American food. For Italian cuisine, Bruno’s Ristorante tops the list. The Keg Steakhouse + Bar serves that great Texas favorite, rare steak. You can also find mouth-watering Mexican cuisine at Via Real.

Parks and Recreation

With 43 parks covering over 2000 acres, Irving real estate is always near an outdoor facility. Most offer shelters or indoor centers, picnic tables, and grills. Seven parks maintain public pools to provide cool relief from the summer heat. Centennial Park is a great place to learn a little bit of local history at Founder’s Plaza. Fritz Park features a petting zoo for the children. Lively Pointe Park has a little bit of everything from meeting rooms to a skate park.

Golfers will enjoy the beautiful greens at Twin Wells Golf Course and Las Colinas Country Club. They can perfect their swings at Irving Golf Club and pick up a new club at Cottonwood Valley Golf Shop.

The Holi Festival attracts over 6,000 participants annually to the Hindu Temple in Irving. The crowds toss colorful powders on one another in celebration of spring. They sample vegetarian cuisine and listen to music performed live with traditional instruments. At the end of the day, the crowd gathers around a magnificent bonfire.

The performing and fine arts community enjoys a full calendar of events at the Irving Arts Center. The 10-acre complex features galleries, theaters, and meeting rooms as well as an exquisite sculpture garden. To the delight of theater lovers, music, drama, and dance fill the stage throughout the year. Free events introduce Irving children to the theater and visual arts.

Living

As you investigate Irving real estate, you will find 19 communities of new homes and many older neighborhoods representing a wide price range with a median value of $230,000. At the high end, you will find majestic homes in gated communities with five or more bedrooms and baths, walk-in closets, and custom kitchens. Exteriors will include multiple car garages, covered patios and outdoor rooms, and exquisite landscaping. The largest employer with over 7,500 employees is Citigroup, followed by Verizon, employing 3,260.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Irving real estate lies within Irving Independent School District. There are 45 public schools in Irving, the highest rated of which are Uplift North Hills Preparatory, Uplift Education, Valley Ranch Elementary School, Uplift Infinity Preparatory, and La Villita Elementary. The 73 private schools in Irving include St. Luke Catholic School, Holy Family Catholic Academy, StoneGate Christian Academy, and the Highlands School. The University of Dallas leads the region in liberal arts. It is a private, Catholic college in Irving. North Lake College, DeVry University, and the University of Phoenix also have campuses in Irving.

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center and Medical City Las Colinas are the two most highly rated hospitals near Irving, but several others also have outstanding reputations. Doctor-owned Baylor Surgical Hospital at Las Colinas provide excellent medical care. Concentra Urgent Care and EC Care Health Center provide alternatives to emergency rooms.

A number of highways run through Irvine such as State Highway 183, the Interstate 635, State Highway 114, and President George Bush Turnpike. Dallas Area Rapid Transit, or DART, provides public transportation to 13 cities, Irving among them. The Orange Line connects Irving to Dallas via rail and also brings you straight to the DFW airport. Dallas Love Field is the closest major airport and is approximately 9 miles east of central Irving. The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is approximately 10 miles northwest.
