  • The town of Lewisville is in northeastern Texas as a part of Denton County- only 30 minutes out of Dallas- and features a pleasant climate, a healthy economic environment, and numerous recreational resources that have attracted many new residents to the area in recent years. Originally known as Holford’s Prairie, the city of Lewisville was incorporated in January 1925. Throughout its history, Lewisville has been steadily growing, with the arrival of the railroad in the early 1880s and the opening of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in the 1970s both drastically boosting the city’s population. Today, about 111,822 residents call Lewisville home and enjoy a strong and diverse economy.

Shopping and Dining

Residents of Lewisville can head to the Music City Mall (formerly called “Vista Ridge Mall”) to satisfy many of their shopping needs. Located on South Stemmons Freeway, the Music City Mall features more than 70 different specialty shops at a broad price range. Grocers in the area include Malko Food Store, Mini Mart, and Zion Market.

For quality dining experiences, area residents can stop by Jinbeh Japanese Restaurant for Japanese cuisine or Bistecca, a highly rated Italian Steakhouse. Parks located within the town of Lewisville itself include Memorial Park, Central Park, and Oakbend Park.

Lewisville features two recreation centers. Thrive, provides an active environment for all ages at affordable prices. Interskate Roller Rink is another recreational facility within Lewisville that offers public skating and private parties.

With a cost of living index of about 102, Lewisville is a slightly more expensive city to live in when compared to the average living index of the rest of the country. The city features a rather young population with a median age of about 32– approximately 10 years less than the median age in the rest of the state. Both Plano and Dallas are located within 25 miles of Lewisville, and many residents of Lewisville commute to these nearby cities on a daily basis.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Young students attending public school in Lewisville study at one of the institutions run by the Lewisville Independent School District. Public schools in the district include the Lewisville High School, The Colony High School, DeLay Middle School, and Central Elementary School. Residents of Lewisville who wish to send their children to a private educational institution can choose from quite a few different schools, including Lakeland Christian Academy on Stemmons Fairway and Willow Bend Academy on East Southwest Parkway. Nearby universities include Southern Methodist University, The University of North TexasDallas College, and Collin County Community College.

Also, the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound is located only about four miles from Lewisville and Baylor Scott & White is seven miles away in Carrollton. The Denton County Transportation Authority services Lewisville through regional buses that run to Carrollton and connect to DART transportation options in Dallas. Also, nearby Dallas has both Greyhound and Amtrak service in addition to the transportation resources of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
