October is here, and while we haven’t had that first cold snap yet here in North Texas, the state fair is here, and the pumpkins are out. Wondering what other fun shenanigans you can get into this month spooky or otherwise? Read on to see what tops our list of October fun.

 

Fall Festivals

Lone Star Storytelling Festival – Frisco, TX – Oct 12 to Oct 13, 2018

Experience the magic of storytelling.  Held at the Frisco Public Library. Features a wide selection of authors and book signings.

Bloomin’ Bluegrass Festival – Farmers Branch, TX – Oct 19 to Oct 20, 2018

Music festival and chili cook-off brings lots of people to the Farmers Branch Historical Park, Farmers Branch, Texas.  Musicians include The Del McCoury Band, Lee Ann Womack, minteer pumpkinsBalsam Range, Hot Rize, Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, The Grascals and many more groups.  One of the best bluegrass events of the year

Festival at the Switchyard – Carrollton, TX – Nov 3 to Nov 3, 2018

A free event with family-friendly concerts, beer garden, food, and shopping attended by over 27,000 last year that honors the critical role played by the railroad in the community.

State Fair of Texas – Dallas, TX -Sept. 28-Oct. 21, 2018

The daddy of all fall festivals returns with Big Tex’s welcoming, “Howdy, folks.” During the 24-day run, fairgoers can celebrate all things Texas with live music, college football games, nightly parade and fireworks, Midway games and rides, animals, and indescribable fried food offerings.

Southlake Oktoberfest – Southlake, TX-Oct. 5-7,2018

Visit this fest for live music, children’s entertainment, artisans, food and beer, and adorable wiener dogs competing in an Oktoberfest costume contest and race.

The Haunt contains a variety of scares that are mostly decorative and FX driven (very few if no Actors). The Haunted Trail is appropriate for all ages while the Pecan Asylum & Manor are a bit more on the scary side.  Donations are welcome!

The Grapeyard

Join the freak show as you try your hand at old-school carnival games and test your daredevil spirit as you step on to the haunted trail. All ages are encouraged to come dressed in their best costumes but please no face masks or hand props. This one-of-a-kind experience will run Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27 from 6:00 – 11:00 pm, join us if you dare for a Halloween scare!
