Ways You Can Give Back During this Holiday Season
The holidays are a wonderful time of the year, but for some of our neighbors, they are extremely hard. As you prepare for your holiday gatherings and traditions, here are a few ways you can give back to the community.
GRACE Christmas Cottage
The Christmas Cottage is a program that provides families with Christmas gifts for their families at no cost to them. What makes our program unique is that we allow our clients to make their own selections of gifts for their family. Each family is given a budget based on their family size. They “shop” in the cottage among age-appropriate items that are given a dollar value that is approximate to Walmart. This way, they not only get to choose the gifts that they know their children will like, but they are learning to budget and understand the value of what they are being given. It really helps the parents maintain a sense of dignity since they can maintain a level of privacy. Visit their website for ways you can help.
Toys for Tots
The U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is directed by the Commander, Marine Forces Reserve, with the assistance of his staff, from the Marine Forces Reserve∗. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Marine Toys for Tots. An IRS recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity, it serves as the authorized fundraising and support organization for the Toys for Tots Program. The Foundation provides leadership, funding, and support needed for successful annual toy collection and distribution campaigns. The Foundation staff is headquartered in the Cooper Center located just outside the Main Gate of Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia, about 35 miles south of Washington, DC. Visit their website for ways to donate.
Salvation Army Angel Tree
No other local program provides Christmas assistance for as many children as The Salvation Army Angel Tree. The program allows people with big hearts to fulfill the Christmas wishes and needs for thousands of girls and boys in North Texas whose families are struggling financially. Through your compassion and generosity, you are making a difference for a parent and a child who needs your help at this particular point in their lives. Their goal is to collect thousands of donated Christmas gifts for children and special needs adults through our Angel Tree program. For locations, visit their website.
Meals on Wheels
They provide meals for those in need in the northeast Tarrant, south Denton, and south Wise counties of Texas. Metroport Meals On Wheels, Inc. is a grassroots volunteer advocate for the elderly and those in need through home-delivered meals, senior center lunches, activity programs, and other support services. They are “neighbors helping neighbors” working to alleviate hunger and isolation in our communities and to foster the independence, worth, and dignity of each individual they serve.
